Hubley Robert the Robot Cast Iron Vintage Money Bank
- Stock: 1
- Model: ROBERT
When Robert the Robot came to us, he was in a sorry state; not only had he broke a leg but his means to raise funds was just not working as it should.
We agreed to give him a service and now he's almost as good as new, well for a 72 year old anyway!
Like all of us at his age, he has a few knocks and chips to the bodywork but he's back to his sprightly self ready to resume his quest of raising funds to get his leg reattached.
If you want to help Robert, simply place a coin on his hand and press the leaver on his back. If you have the skill, he will reward you by rolling his eyes and gobbling your coin.
Robert the Robot Mechanical bank by Hubley. Circa 1950, dated on his backside.
The robot has one poseable arm and leg as shown in photos.
Press lever on back and right hand moves to mouth and coin falls in.
His eyes roll back as his hand comes up.
He is red in colour . Measures approx. 7" tall.
Cast Iron Banks, such as this are often reproduced and sold as vintage. We are very confident that this is an original having completely stripped down and repaired the item.
There are signs that a previous owner touched-up the paintwork but we can see the original red in some places. The chips and scratches are right for the age, the scratching on the base gives a good indication of money retrieval over the years.
NOTE: The price offered is based on the original cost of acquisition and time spent getting Robert to work properly. We have no providence to guarantee ‘Robert The Robots’ true age so are asking at least £1,000 less than other ridiculous valuations seen (although we can only find one other).
